Beyond Betrayal - Money Cant Save You Now (EP)

Money Can’t Save You Now is a celebration of everything metalcore, with its abundance of breakdowns, catchy melodic riffs, and hardcore vocals. Unlike many of the run of the mill metalcore acts which appear to be cropping up on what seems like an hourly basis, Beyond Betrayal don’t sound clichéd  or exhausted but have a sound which has a freshness and an electricity about it.

This is the second EP from the Barrow based five-piece and sees the addition of new guitarist Tom Fisher and vocalist Vincent Dickinson who have brought in elements of aggression and a passion for deathcore to Beyond Betrayal’s existing melodic sound. You wouldn’t be able to guess from the bands musicianship that these two members joined earlier this year; the band are very tight and the song writing they demonstrate is mature and well honed.

It would be difficult to directly compare Beyond Betrayal with another act but at a push HP would have to say they are kind of like Killswitch Engage fused with I Killed The Prom Queen but with elements of BMTH’s vocal style thrown in there. Given that the band draws influence from these acts then this should be a fair and accurate observation.

Tear Me Apart shows Beyond Betrayal’s melodic side with its catchy chorus, clean vocals and BFMV esque twin guitar harmonies, whereas tracks Money Can’t Save You Now and What lies Inside demonstrate the bands more aggressive and deathcore edge.

Novemberis both a standout track and a powerful and fitting opener which perfectly encapsulates the band’s sound and attitude. Scott’s Got A Time Machine (He Told Me Tomorrow) is the best track on the EP and is full of great riffs and rhythms, gang vocals and blastbeats. This track is also a showcase for drummer Jake Newton’s talent and rhythmic precision.

There isn’t a bad track or a filler track on the EP, instead we are presented with five well constructed and well written melodic metalcore songs.

What really stands out on Money Can’t Save You Now is the quality of its production. For an unsigned band’s second EP the sound is phenomenal. This is a result Beyond Betrayal working alongside accomplished producer Shane Frisby who has produced the likes of The Ghost Inside and Bury Your Dead.

A few of these new tracks have been performed live by the band and translate very well to the stage. Beyond Betrayal’s live show is an exhilarating experience and showcases the band’s musicianship, passion and aggression. If anyone gets the chance to see this band then do so.
